A short film by Cloudy Rhodes
In Post Production
Blue, young and gender-queer, awakens through a dusty morning, binding their breasts, and smoking a joint as they watch the world from their window. A chance encounter with party girl Violet leads the pair to the ocean, where Blue watches her take to the waves in a daringly beautiful exhibition of soul-surfing, and the possibility of connection stirs. BEAUTIFUL THEY is a youthful, visually charged, uplifting non-binary love story; a queer surf-romance about the nuances of gender, and the refuge found in being truly seen.

YURI did not see the fall coming. One moment, she was rehearsing for her graduation show. The next, she was on the floor, unable to get up. Now the young dancer finds herself partially paralysed in hospital, with no idea how or when she will dance again. As Yuri gives her body over to tests and rehabilitation, her world starts to splinter. When she encounters OLANDA, a puzzling young woman with juvenile diabetes, a chance for growth and connection stirs... GIRL AND BODY is an exploration of the fragile connective tissue that binds women to their bodies, and each other.

What if you could see your dreams? Watch them back like a movie, as many times as you like.
Would you want to? Should you?
Somnio is a sensuous, romantic sci fi, in which a psychologist takes a job at a clinic where patients’ dreams are the focus of treatment. Once there, she becomes enthralled by the dreams of a patient with whom she has a history; a lover she thought she'd left in the past…
The film explores the question of human subconscious – how much are we really in control of our desires, our destinies? And is it ever possible to change who you are, and how you love?

BROWN LAKE VR is a short proof-of-concept work for a larger-scale, multi-chapter work ANTHROPOCENE VR, in development by Samantha Lang and Handmaid Media.
This is a story of place and an experience of bodies of water, rock, plants, air, creatures and other beings that have existed across deep time, and felt the impact of humanity’s existence on the planet. Working with live action, puppeteered landscapes filmed in miniature provide a sense of scale and presence. Our story-world is hand made from recycled materials, offering an imaginative abstraction of place and perspective, inviting the viewer to make the curious leap across the scales of time.
“Whilst this is not breaking news, very little reporting or media coverage of The Anthropocene seems to have provoked decisive action to slow the effects of man-made despoiling of the Mother Earth. Over the last decade more and more calls have been made for those working in the arts to address – in the form of new cultural narratives – a way of acknowledging and controverting the impact of capitalist modes of being. This project is a small step towards addressing the urgency of the issue.”
